The little-known PGA Tour star has an incredible fortune that would make LIV Golf executives cry.

PGA Tour star Maverick McNeely has earned just £7 million in his career but could inherit a £1 billion fortune, making him the second richest golfer of all time after Tiger Woods. The 28-year-old American turned pro in 2017 and is still waiting for his first tournament win, but his future fate could leave LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman and others perplexed. Norman (£321 million) currently has the second-highest estimated net worth in golf after Woods, while McNeely, who is ranked 100 in the world, has three golfing brothers, Dakota, Colt and Scout, and their legacies. However, McNeely has the potential to surpass the top Saudi golfer.
Before earning his PGA Tour card, McNeely had broken Woods’ 18-hole record at Stanford University with Cameron Wilson. He rose to No. 57 in his career rankings last year and was twice runner-up, but has never played in the Masters.
He said his father, Scott, who co-founded the technology company Sun Microsystems and later sold it to Oracle for £5.8 billion in 2010, made sure his sons could earn a living, and despite his vast wealth. “My brother and I have never been on welfare,” McNeely said. “Then I was told that after college, I would get a summer job and then go out on my own. My dad made me pay the rent so I could live at home after school. Just kidding. Not so!
“My father often tells me that the most funded startups always fail, and that short runways light a fire in the back that is difficult to replicate. I don’t judge my success in golf by how much money I make. I judge it by my effort and commitment.

In addition to golfing, McNeely is also an avid pilot and received his flying license a year ago. He showed off his driving skills in a PGA Tour video in October, calling the day he graduated one of the “most rewarding” moments of his life.
He wrote on Instagram: “I’m a pilot!! I’m still processing everything, but this is definitely one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done in my life. Thank you Luke and Jake for everything you have taught me on the ground and in the air. I know I will be learning for the rest of my life. »
The Management Science and Engineering graduate and his sponsor are also donating £16 for every bird he makes to his father’s new not-for-profit organization, Curriki. His free online learning service has been around since 2004 and is still going strong.
