Tiger Woods Dealt Brutal Reality Check by Golf World Despite Positive Injury Update: ‘Dream On’
The annual charity event hosted by Tiger Woods, Tiger Jam, kicked off on Friday, May 31. The start of the unparalleled weekend in Vegas includes a Tiger Jam Golf Outing, along with a Poker Night by the end of Friday. The golfer was, consequently, spotted at the Shadow Creek Golf Course, teeing it up during the same.
Videos of the 82-time PGA Tour champ teeing it up were shared on X (formerly Twitter) by various news handles, including NUCLR GOLF as well as TWLEGION, a fan page for the professional. The latter account shared the recordings with the caption, “Tiger with some pop to his swing as Pinehurst approaches,” while alluding to the upcoming major championship, the 2024 U.S. Open. The tweet hinted at an injury-free Tiger Woods ahead of his third major appearance at Pinehurst No. 2.
The 48-year-old, since his return to the game at the 2023 Hero World Challenge, has taken part in a total of five events, including the 2023 PNC Championship with his son, Charlie Woods. Although the athlete had, back then, divulged his plans to play in an event per month including the majors, a withdrawal from the Genesis Invitational caused it to backfire, leading him to just tee it up at the majors.
The prestigious events, however, weren’t too successful for the golfer. Woods finished T60 at the Masters Tournament in Augusta National while scoring a 16-over par 304 with figures of 73-72-82-77. Following the same, he missed the cut in the PGA Championship with a score of 7-over 149 at 72-77. Regardless of the finishes, the community would still be able to witness him teeing it up at Pinehurst No. 2 for the upcoming major if everything goes as per the professional’s plans.
The tweet, meanwhile, failed to garner support from the golf world. A lot of the followers in the community did not express their backing for the golfer but instead took to taunt him and issue jabs at him for his recent performances that followed his gameplay post-recovery. The fans didn’t take his appearance at the Tiger Jam all too well either.
Netizens predict another missed cut for Tiger Woods at the majors
The song ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith was released back in 1973. It still, nevertheless, continues to find its place among the top songs of many in the world, even after half a century. A fan couldn’t help but make use of the song in a clever manner to mock Tiger Woods; “I’ve heard this sound titled “Dream On”. You should learn the lyrics because that is what you’re doing, dreaming.”
Why? Out of his last four starts at the U.S. Open, the golfer has missed the cut a total of three times in 2015, 2018, and 2020, the last of which he did so while scoring 73-77. Such jabs didn’t stop at one comment, as more followers also came and responded with the likes of “Please… another missed cut,” and “Lots of work for a two-day exhibition coming up at us open.”
When asked about his schedule back in 2023, the 15-time major champ had replied, “Would have to start with maybe at Genesis and something in March, near the Players.” Things, however, rarely go as planned, as a similar situation happened with Woods as well (remember the influenza he came down with back in Riviera Country Club?). Since then, he has only played in the major championships. Such a schedule coupled with the video on the practice range elicited many reactions from the followers; “Please with these Tiger is stripping it videos; he should be playing tour events if he is serious about contending at majors,”
Woods’s stats do appear really low, all thanks to his recent performances on the course. His total strokes gained by putting value at -0.439 while having only a GIR% of 50%.“It’s not his swing that’s the issue. Putting (pace of the greens), and overall tourney golf sharpness are. Not enough tourney golf. Besides that, there are other pros who are just better. His body has difficulty holding up for 72 holes. Don’t see him ever winning again. 82 & 15.”
The golfer met with an accident in 2021, after which he underwent a lot of surgeries and treatment. He even withdrew from the 2023 Masters owing to plantar fasciitis on his legs. A fan coupled the fact with his PGA Championship performance to comment, “PGA winning score was -21. He was +8 ish after 2 rounds. His putting cannot save him anymore. His body has too much scar tissue.” Xander Schauffele won the second major of 2024 with a score of 21-under 263 while raking in a cut of $3,330,000.
While the video does hint at a healthy Tiger Woods ahead of the U.S. Open that is set to take place at Pinehurst, the fans do not feel the same way. What do you think? Will he be able to prove everyone wrong or accept his unfortunate fate? Let us know in the comments below.
