Russell reveals where he ‘upped his game’ in 2023 while he searches for answers in winter break

Russell revealed “where the game has improved” as he looks for answers in the 2023 winter break.

Although the Mercedes drivers were inseparable in qualifying, going 11-11 in head-to-head matches, Hamilton was 15-6 on race day. Russell suffered four DNFs and described the clash with Max Verstappen in Las Vegas as “the story of my season”.

As a result, Russell finished 8th in the drivers’ standings. That’s 100 points less than he scored in 2022 and five places and 59 points ahead of seven-time world champion Hamilton. Asked to compare his performance in 2023 to the year he won his first Grand Prix in Sao Paulo, Russell responded philosophically.
“It’s been a season where we’ve had a lot of momentum at times but we haven’t got the results we thought we deserved or could have, so we’ve got to try and understand why,” Russell said. Russell took his first F1 victory with Mercedes in 2022, but failed to repeat that victory last year.

“It was great
