DARTS icon Phil Taylor has given his fans a health update after having an operation that left him on crutches.

The 63-year-old has been battling painful arthritis in his hip.

Since retiring from professional darts in 2018, “The Power” has been competing on the World Seniors Tour.

The 16-time world champion has struggled for form, including a disappointing first-round exit at the Senior Championships in February because of his arthritis.

To get back on track Taylor underwent surgery in June to tackle the issue and has since been on crutches.

But over the weekend the darts legend has reached out to his fans via social media with a health update.

In a video message, Taylor said: “Hi everybody, Phil the Power. Just to let you know I’ve had my operation, everything’s fine because a lot of people have been asking me about it. I’m off my crutches now which is great.

“It’s been three weeks on Monday. So another three weeks and I’ll be on the practice board getting ready for the seniors.

“Hopefully now everything will be back to normal, that’s the plan. See you soon, keep well, stay safe.”

Taylor is determined to finish his career on a high and is set to compete at the World Seniors Matchplay this October at York’s Barbican.
