News to hit your heart: For Julia Roberts. We announce… …more

Her big smile and long legs have made Julia Roberts one of America’s most bankable stars.

But when she starred opposite Ewan McGregor, the 44-year-old was hard to recognize as the actress she rose to fame as Vivian Ward in the 1990s film “Pretty Woman.” Julia scrubbed her makeup, donned tacky clothes and transformed herself while filming an emotional scene for “August” in Osage County, Bartsville, Oklahoma.

Hysterical performance: The brunette performed with tears in her eyes

The screen star, who has three real-life children with her film director husband Daniel Moder, wore a white shirt over a cream top and completed the look with loose blue jeans. Her long brown hair was not at all glamorous for playing Barbara Weston, a character about a family that overcomes some differences when their alcoholic patriarch disappears.

During the intense scene, Ewan held Julia’s hand with great anticipation, as they walked to a boat dock to have a dead body identified by a sheriff. Mommy look: The Pretty Woman actress looked pretty sleazy while filming a tense scene in which the sheriff has to identify the body.

Julia burst into tears when she saw the body and hoped that Evan’s Bill Fordham would comfort her as she continued to cry in his arms.

She may have been hysterical throughout the scene, but moments later, Julia was bursting out in laughter between takes. The actress appeared alongside Julianne Nicholson, who seemed to point out something rather funny to the group.

Not her usual look: she wore jeans and layered tops for the role of Barbara Weston

The Boardwalk Empire star also dressed down, donning a pair of blue and brown flared pants with her hair tied back in a ponytail. The 2013 film also stars Benedict Cumberbatch as “Little Charles Aiken”, as well as Meryl Streep and Violet Weston.

The film’s IMBd page states that Renee Zellweger and Andrea Riseborough were considered for the role. Riseborough was originally cast in the role, but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. Juliette Lewis replaced her in the role of Karen Weston. Chloë Moretz auditioned for the role of Jean Fordham, but lost to Abigail Breslin.
