Piastri opens up on Norris comparisons amid F1 pressure

Piatri reveals Norris comparison under F1 pressure

Oscar Piastri has revealed he will be compared to McLaren F1 team-mate Lando Norris during his rookie season – and admitted he will always be compared to the Briton, regardless of results.

Piastre took 2023 by storm, showing maturity beyond his years, coming through the second half of the season with an improved MCL60. Despite his brilliant form, the Australian F1 star finished with less than half of Norris’ total score (205-97), a testament to Norris’ longevity in the sport.

Norris is considered one of the network’s most talented hosts, so having another exciting young talent alongside him is a very enviable situation. But Piastri, just 22, will be compared to his teammate as they compete for back-to-back wins in the same car.

But the Antipodean dismissed the idea that he would be under extra pressure, saying he was an important part of the F1 world. “Every time I fought for last and last or first and second, I was always compared to Lando,” he told Autosport. “So there will always be those comparisons. “But in terms of absolute results, there would have been no pressure to get big scores or a podium or anything straight away. But the comparison happened nonetheless. “I was still trying to learn as fast as possible and help the team as much as possible. “It’s not like we stopped doing business.”
