Red Bull F1 bosses must drop Daniel Ricciardo to replace Sergio ‘The Mustard’ Perez.

Sergio Perez is in the final year of his contract with Red Bull and is under pressure to live up to his contract, while Daniel Ricciardo is already on the list as one of several potential replacements.

Red Bull have urged Alex Albon to get a second chance to shine with the team.

British-Thai driver Albon was part of Red Bull’s junior program and was promoted to the top team after just 12 races during his Formula 1 career. He spent 18 months alongside Max Verstappen but was replaced by Sergio Perez ahead of the 2021 season.

He joined Williams in 2022 after a one-year break and has been shining ever since. Last year he impressed, leading the team to seventh place in the Constructors’ Championship.

As a result, he is once again attracting the attention of top teams. Ferrari are watching Albon’s performances with interest, but there are still no signs that Red Bull can lure him back to their team.

Eddie Jordan thinks it should be done. The former team boss, like many others, was impressed by what he saw from Albon and believes the 27-year-old deserves a second chance alongside Verstappen.

“I like Albon,” the Irishman said on his Formula For Success podcast. “I think in the right conditions he could really be a key player. I’d love to see him get the chance alongside Max as I think he could be a big surprise.”

Albon himself believes he was offered the Red Bull seat early in his F1 career. But now that he has the chance to try again with his acquired skills and experience, the 27-year-old believes his chances at the job are much more effective.

“Other drivers who have gone through difficult periods in their careers, such as McLaren’s Daniel Ricciardo, have struggled to feel comfortable in the car,” he told Motorsport Total. “So we tried to make him feel comfortable at Red Bull. However, it didn’t work. I can do it with the knowledge I have now. But looking back, that’s easier said than done.
