JON RAHM LEFT FRUSTRATED AS ANOTHER PGA TOUR STAR DEAL FALLS THROUGH ON LIV GOLF
Jon Rahm left frustrated again as another deal for a PGA Tour star on his LIV Golf team falls through.
Jon Rahm has reportedly been unsuccessful in his bid to sign another PGA Tour star onto his LIV Golf team for 2024 as a deal to sign reigning US Open champion Wyndham Clark has now fallen through.
The update was confirmed on Twitter this morning by Flushing It, who initially broke the news that Clark was close to signing on the dotted line with Rahm’s team, which will apparently be called Legion XIII.
Flushing It then tweeted on 17 January “talks might have now fallen through.”
The account confirmed on 18 January: “Yeah. Talks fell through.”
Clark is also competing in this week’s American Express on the PGA Tour.
It marks the second big name on the PGA Tour that has turned their nose away at joining Rahm’s LIV Golf team in five weeks.
GolfMagic was informed last month that Rahm was very interested in signing PGA Tour star Tony Finau.
Rahm and Finau are good friends, too.
But that deal also fell through.
As far as we understand from our sources close to LIV Golf, the Saudi-backed circuit could not meet Finau’s financial demand.
Finau will now remain on the PGA Tour this season, but LIV Golf could come back in for him at a later date.
But Hatton will remain a player on the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in 2024, we have been informed by our sources.
Rahm’s four-man team is therefore still being determined with just two weeks to go until the start of the 2024 LIV Golf League season, which starts at former PGA Tour stop Mayakoba in Mexico.
It is expected that amateur Caleb Surratt will join Rahm’s team, according to Handicap 54, as well as Kieran Vincent.
Surratt, 19 is ranked the leading 10th amateur in the world right now and he also competed on the 2023 US Walker Cup team, while 26-year-old Vincent, who qualified for LIV Golf through their recent Promotions Event, is ranked just inside the top 400.
If that is indeed the case then Rahm needs to find just one more player for his team.
He will need to be quick, especially with the first LIV Golf League event starting in Mexico in the first week of February.
Rahm has just headed out for a practice round, possibly to let off some heat:
Rahm made the shock move from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf last month in a deal reportedly worth in the region of £450m.
Cameron Smith finalised his LIV Golf team this week as Lucas Herbert became the final Australian to join Ripper GC.
That news was once again confirmed by Flushing It. Herbert also replied to his tweet:
Herbert has one victory to his name on the PGA Tour and three wins on the DP World Tour.
