Tommy Fleetwood has ruled out staying on the PGA Tour with LIV Golf’s Rory McIlroy, but compatriot Tyrrell Hutton is now the Saudi-backed tour’s main pre-season target for 2024.

LIV Golf officials are targeting Tyrrell Hutton as their next signing on the Saudi-backed Breakaway Tour after Tommy Fleetwood and Nikolay Hoggard rejected offers to stay on the PGA Tour.

Since its controversial launch two years ago, many golfers have taken to LIV Golf and even a few stars have signed up for the big bucks. But the rift between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf deepened last month when Jon Rahm became the latest high-profile player to controversially switch to the series with the backing of Saudi Arabia’s Sovereign Investment Fund.

With the PGA Tour and DP World Tour in merger talks with PIF, LIV Golf is looking to add high-profile players to its roster ahead of the 2024 season that begins in Mexico. According to The Telegraph , Hutton could be next in line to succeed Rahm after Fleetwood and Hodggaard turned down blockbuster contracts.

There have been discussions between the Briton and LIV Golf, but Hutton has yet to receive a formal offer. If true, Greg Norman’s winning streak means he has been trying to win over more members of Luke Donald’s European team since winning the Ryder Cup in Rome four months ago.

Rory McIlroy has said Ryder Cup rules should be changed before the Spaniard can compete in New York following Lahm’s £450m move to LIV Golf for the 29-year-old. Rahm could technically earn DP World Tour membership, but will face a tsunami of fines and bans in 2024 after playing in 14 LIV golf events.

Under the current rules, players like Hatton and other European players will suffer a similar fate if they sign with LIV Golf. The Englishman could be a target after his successful Ryder Cup partnership with Rahm.
