Notable QB Coach Makes Strong Statement About Browns OC Candidate
Since his departure, news has circulated about who will replace him.
In addition to veterans with coaching experience, including Tim Kelly, another name is in the mix. The Browns are expected to interview current Houston Texans quarterbacks coach Jerrod Johnson, according to multiple sources, including ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Although Johnson has received mixed reviews as an offensive coordinator candidate, Elite 11’s Quincy Avery believes becoming offensive coordinator is just the first step for Johnson (via Quincy Avery on Twitter).
Avery has had the opportunity to coach many NFL quarterbacks, including Deshaun Watson of the Browns and Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles. So he knows what to look for in other quarterbacks coaches and believes Johnson has what it takes to be very successful.
C. J. With Stroud of the Texans showing his full coaching potential, it’s hard to say Avery is wrong. Additionally, quarterbacks coach is Johnson’s biggest responsibility as a coach, and he’s only done it for one year.
Given his inexperience, it’s no surprise that not everyone is on board with the idea of hiring Johnson. After Johnson’s interview with the Browns this week, we’ll find out who else could be a contender.
