Hugh Freeze solved the team’s quarterback woes after a 13-31 loss to Maryland in the Music City Bowl. Here’s what Freeze had to say about the future:
“It’s very open.” Freeze said. “I always evaluate the players, the staff, everybody. If my evaluation is not right, we have to strengthen and re-evaluate our mechanisms to improve and these are the steps we have to take.” This position will definitely be interesting in spring training.”
The Tigers addressed their quarterback situation by signing the 2023 Sun Belt Player of the Year via the transfer portal.
Jordan McCloud joined USF as a three-star recruit prior to the 2018 season. McCloud redshirted in 2018.
McCloud played in every game and started 10 games in 2019. He completed 124 of 224 attempts for 1,429 yards, including 12 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
McCloud appeared in eight games and started seven in 2020. He completed 120 of 194 pass attempts for 1,341 yards, including nine tackles and two interceptions.
Jordan McCloud has committed to Arizona for the 2021 season. McCloud appeared in three games and started two in 2021. He completed 48 of 73 attempts for 481 yards, including two touchdowns and five interceptions. He suffered knee and ankle injuries that required surgery.
On 8 October 2022, McCloud announced his departure from the team and entered the transfer portal. Transferred to James Madison.
Jordan McCloud transferred to James Madison for the 2023 season. McCloud led James Madison to an 11-2 record. He completed 281 of 412 pass attempts for 3,657 yards, 35 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He was named First Team All-Sun Belt and Sun Belt Player of the Year.
Jordan McCloud should secure a starting spot for the Auburn Tigers. McCloud faces Payton Thorne, Holden Geriner and Walker White.
