NFL shares Lions fan sign that some claim mocks Hockenson, Higbee injuries
The NFL is divided among Lions fans, with some disgruntled mocking the injuries to Hockenson and Higbee.
The Vikings and Rams both suffered serious knee injuries against Detroit.
As Detroit Lions fans celebrated their trip to the NFC title game, a sign on Sunday’s FOX telecast mocked the nagging injuries suffered by their opponents in recent games against the Lions. On December 24, the Vikings traded T.J. Hockenson suffered a torn ACL and MCL in his right knee after taking a low snap from Detroit safety Kerby Joseph. Rams tight end Tyler Higbee suffered a similar injury when he hit Joseph in the knee during the Lions’ wild-card win last week.
Fan signs displayed during Lions-Buccaneers broadcasts and posted on social media via official NFL accounts read “kneecap,” “another kneecap” and “gone.” Twice it ended with “Last Man Standing”. The check marks on the kneepads were next to the Vikings and Rams logos. The use of “kneecap” is no doubt a reference to Detroit coach Dan Campbell’s 2021 inaugural press conference, where he used the metaphors of “biting off an opponent’s head” versus “biting off an opponent’s head.” He promised to take me to the Motor City. But why do you do this?
