The San Francisco 49ers believe star receiver Deebo Samuel has a ’50-50′ shot to play in Sunday’s NFC title game against the Detroit Lions, ESPN reported on Monday.
Samuel sustained an injury to his left shoulder in the first half of Saturday’s divisional round win against the Green Bay Packers. He appeared to get hurt on the first drive of the game for the 49ers when he was tackled after a 9-yard gain.
He was initially checked for a head injury but was able to return. Samuel was out of uniform at the start of the second half.
The 28-year-old wideout has 60 passes for 892 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for 225 yards and five scores in 15 games during the 2023 regular season.

He reportedly underwent medical testing on Sunday but the team had not shared the results as of Monday morning.
Samuel also injured his shoulder early in a Week 6 loss at Cleveland and missed the next two games – both losses.

The 49ers will be playing in their record 19th conference championship game since the 1949-50 AAFC-NFL merger.
They are 7-11 in their previous trips and have lost the last two seasons, first against the Rams and then Philadelphia.
The last team to lose a conference title game in three straight seasons was the Eagles from 2001-03.
