Wrexham have received a huge boost in their efforts to sign Aaron Collins from Bristol Rovers.

According to Bristol Rovers correspondent Dan Hargraves, the 26-year-old forward has been left out of the match-day squad to face Oxford United in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Both Wrexham and Charlton Athletic have enquired about his availability throughout January, as Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds look to strengthen their push for back-to-back promotions.

Bristol Rovers boss Matt Taylor has since commented on the possibility of players leaving the club this month. He said: “There’s always a potential if the right offer comes in, not just in terms of transfer fees but loans as well for anyone who’s not getting the game time they want or feel they deserve.

“We have to be open in terms of that. But the squad is quite thin all of a sudden which is strange to say because I came into the club and it was a big and deep squad. We just wanted a valuable contribution on the pitch.

“So there’s always room for manoeuvre in the next week or so but I’ve said all along that the reason I took the job was because of the quality in the squad and I always want to look within the building before looking elsewhere.”

Despite failing to replicate last seasons electric form in front of goal, which saw him net 16 goals and add a further 11 assists, Collins has continued to create for his teammates and currently leads the division in assists with eight. His form continues to attract a growing list of suitors, as the club assess whether they will cash-in on one of the more valuable members of the squad.

Collins remains out of the starting line-up as the end of the January transfer window approaches. Whether or not he will remain in Bristol or make the switch to join Wrexham’s Hollywood owners, remains to be seen.
