NFL icon Bill Belichick offered podcast job after Atlanta Falcons snub
Bill Belichick became head coach of the Atlanta Falcons despite two interviews, and Bill Simmons offered the six-time Super Bowl champion a podcast.
NFL legend Bill Belichick was offered a podcast opportunity by the Ringer Network after the Atlanta Falcons overlooked Bill Simmons.
Belichick left the New England Patriots after a difficult 2023 season, ending an incredibly successful 24-year partnership. The legendary coach turned the winless Patriots into six-time Super Bowl champions alongside quarterback Tom Brady and owner Rob Kraft.
However, after Brady moved to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the team finished 2023 with a poor 4-13 record. The scandal prompted Belichick to resign as head coach and general manager, and the Falcons considered him for the vacant position, but ultimately chose Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris to replace him.
As a result, Simmons saw an opportunity and offered Belichick a spot on the podcast network. “So Bill Belichick wasn’t hired by the Atlanta Falcons, that’s ridiculous,” Simmons said in the video. They gave him two interviews. He won six Super Bowls. He is a football genius. He stole the Super Bowl from Seattle.
“Look at this tape, Atlanta. I don’t think that was mentioned in the two interviews, idiot*****. That’s why you’re the Atlanta Falcons. “They didn’t hire him anyway. Bill Belichick, come to The Ringer. There is a place for you. I have Tuesday and Thursday. Come Doc Rivers. Come for an hour and we’ll talk about football that season. You can guess my rules and Sal’s if you want. You can wear whatever you want. You can do it right in the kitchen in Nantucket, where you sketched it that year.
“I think you’re good with the press. Who am I arguing with? I am asking the Swedes (owners of Spotify) to write me a check. You’ve won six Super Bowls and now you can come to The Ringer for a year before coaching the Dallas Cowboys. Let’s join forces. You know how to contact me.”
The Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders are the only two teams with head coaching vacancies. No team has been linked to a move for Belichick, who may not sit out this season before returning to the league.
