Reasons why Phil Parkinson will still get sack even with a win

WREXHAM are having their worst run under Phil Parkinson but he has vowed to turn things around and get the Reds’ promotion challenge back on track.

Saturday’s 1-0 reverse at home to Bradford City, who scored a 90th minute winner, was the fourth successive defeat in all competitions and leaves Wrexham fifth in League Two, nine points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.

Despite losing the last three league matches, Wrexham remain well-placed in the quest for a second successive promotion and Parkinson is looking to end the poor run of form against second bottom Sutton United at Gander Green Lane this evening.

“We are pleased we can get back out on the pitch on Tuesday night,” said Parkinson, who took over as manager at The Racecourse in July 2021.

“We pick ourselves up quickly because the games come thick and fast.

“We have got to take the pain of losing. We haven’t had it much and we haven’t gone on a run where it hasn’t gone our way.

“We have had so much go our way and we have deserved that with the way we have played.

“At the moment things have gone against us, some of our own making – we have to say that – but it just wouldn’t fall for us on Saturday when we really needed it to.

“There are areas we can be better at but the lads responded well during the week and on Saturday, and on another day we could have won that game comfortably.

“Sometimes you don’t get what you deserve in football and the big thing is no-one feels sorry for you.

“We have got to take the good parts from Saturday on the road with us to Sutton.”

Parkinson said he will utilise the squad with Wrexham facing a busy fixture schedule.

“We will be looking at the freshness of the players and who is ready to go again,” added the Reds’ boss.

“We will pick the team we feel can get us off and running again at Sutton.”
