For obvious reasons, Tiger Woods’ son Charlie is one of the main attractions at the PNC Championship. Possessing a healthy amount of the genetic makeup of arguably the greatest player to ever play the game, Charlie’s progression has been a constant source of interest for golf media, largely because any time we see Charlie in action, Tiger is never far away.

Such is the quality of the game’s top players, it’s still considerable odds against that Charlie ever makes his way onto the top tier of the professional game, never mind emulate his father as a Major Championship winner, but, particularly when we’re talking about a ‘just for fun’ event like the PNC Championship, we’re all allowed to enjoy the spectacle.

Having won the hearts and minds with his first appearance as a fresh-faced 11-year-old in 2020, which drew several ‘Mini-Me’ comparison videos thanks to the mannerisms he shared with his father, not to mention the quality of play he produced, the now 14-year-old has grown up a lot.

And he’s moved back as well. Not in terms of game, in terms of tee. Having played Orlando’s Ritz-Carlton Grand Lakes Course at around 6,000 yards in his first two years, Charlie played at around 6,500 yards in 2022. This year, whilst Woods Snr will play off the 7,106 Championship Tees, Woods Jnr will play from the same tees as Jim Furyk, Vijay Singh, Nelly Korda, Retief Goosen and John Daly.

That means an additional 80 or 90 yards, and whilst it gives an opportunity to see just how far the younger Woods can hit the ball off the tee, it makes a victory for Team Woods less of a likelihood.

The Woods family duo are set to make an appearance in Friday’s Pro-Am, before the official competition gets underway on Saturday.

Having contested each of the last four PNC Championships alongside eldest son Paddy, Padraig Harrington this year has youngest son Ciaran as his partner, and they are again set to play in Friday’s Pro-Am having also featured in Thursday’s Pro-Am.

“It was actually Ciaran watching Paddy and I play together out there these last couple of years that really ignited his passion for the game, which shows what a very special event this is,” Harrington Snr said

“He must have watched me play in hundreds of events over the years and it has taken the unique atmosphere and experience of the PNC Championship to inspire him!”
