Tiger’s walk-off at Riviera shows he can no longer compete at the elite level.

We wish Woods the best of luck.

Tiger’s retirement at Riviera indicates that he can no longer compete at an elite level.

Pacific Palisades, California. No athlete wants to be described in the past tense. No one wants to know how great they were. Their passion, their drive to overcome obstacles that others can never overcome, is what separates the truly great from those who aspire to be like them.

Tiger Woods’ return to the PGA Tour last week at Riviera was a clear sign that the 15-time major winner is no longer truly competitive. Of his last nine games on the official tour, only four have been on the weekend. It’s hard to imagine that when the 2024 Masters takes place, it will have been five years since he wore his fifth green jacket. Since 2014, he has played in 22 major tournaments, but has finished in the top 10 only three times. During that time, he missed nine games. To put things into perspective, between 1997 and 2013, when Woods was at his peak, he missed the cut just three times.

The onslaught of fans and distracted media sycophancy showed that Woods has completely forgotten the reality that he no longer has the golf to compete in the 72-hole format, where cuts are also part of the format. When Tiger said he would return to play a few months ago
