Transgender golfer Hayley Davidson responds to ‘misunderstood hatred’ after winning Women’s Mini Tour

Transgender golfer Haley Davidson won the NXXT Women’s Classic last week at the Mission Inn Resort in Howie in the Hills, Florida. The Scottish golfer, who became the first male golfer to win the women’s professional event three years ago, has won again. She captured the Florida Mini Tour trophy with a playoff win at the season-opening Hilton Grand Vacations LPGA Tournament of Champions.

After the win, Davidson faced significant backlash. Like her previous wins, this NXXT Women’s Classic win was criticized by political parties opposed to transgender golfers’ participation. Davidson quickly came forward to address the backlash. Amid the outrage, the Scot took to her Instagram account to point out that the “amount of misinformed hate she received” was “insane”.

In response to the backlash, Hayley Davidson wrote on her Instagram Story, which disappeared 24 hours after being posted.

“The amount of misinformed hate I received today is just incredible. All of these guys hit 300 yards, maybe 280 yards. Is it around 250 on a good day?

She also thanked everyone who supported her.

She also said:

“But most of all, I would like to sincerely thank everyone who has supported me, from her fellow contestants to everyone I may or may not have had the chance to meet. Thank you to everyone who helped me overcome hate and made me feel loved.

Hayley Davidson later said in an Instagram post, “No one’s going to be mad at you until you’re successful in some way.” She stressed that “we will never allow hatred to win, especially when it is based on any misinformation.”

Transgender golfer Haley Davidson wins NXXT Women’s Classic
For the uninitiated, Haley Davidson won the former East Coast Women’s Professional Golf Circuit NXXT last week. The golfer defeated 24 players in a three-round tournament despite trailing by three strokes after the first round. She defeated the runner-up in a playoff to win her second title in two years.

A transgender golfer took home the trophy this season at the event, which is part of a new partnership with the LPGA Tour’s developmental tour, the Epson Tour. With this victory, she is one step closer to her dream of playing in the women’s major league.

Interestingly, the top five players on the NXXT roster will receive her two exemptions from the Epson Tour courses and will be able to play on the LPGA. Davidson currently leads the points list with 1,320 points. She has a 150 point lead over second place. Davidson still has a long way to go before she gets an LPGA card, but she hopes to do the same.

Davidson wrote in an Instagram post on Saturday.

“This win was incredible, but contrary to all the articles, I am incredibly far from the LPGA Tour and have a lot of work to do to get there one day.”
