Red Bull responds to big money talks. Max Verstappen’s retirement gap
Red Bull has said that whether Verstappen continues to play for the remainder of his contract will be determined by the team’s performance, not money. The three-time F1 champion has signed a contract with Red Bull until 2028, which will include two seasons under new restrictions.
Lewis Hamilton’s blockbuster move from Mercedes to Ferrari, and whatever its ramifications, has sparked speculation about Verstappen’s long-term future. Would he continue working at Red Bull if a better offer came from a competitor?
“Like any F1 contract, there are provisions in case certain quality criteria for success are not met,” Marko told Servas TV. “This is also stipulated in Max’s contract.
“I don’t think it matters to Max that the amount is unknown. “He wants to be a good driver, even if we can’t give him a winning car.”
“You’re not getting any younger.
“And if he doesn’t see the light of day at Red Bull and these conditions come into force, obviously he will look elsewhere. “But what could be better than this?”
It is unclear how Mercedes will fill Hamilton’s seat in 2025.
Fernando Alonso is one of the most high-profile candidates, but Mercedes could also opt for a promising young driver. New laws that come into effect in 2026 could rebalance the market and test Red Bull’s dominance.
With Sergio Perez’s contract expiring and a slew of potential replacements emerging, Red Bull must first consider what to do in 2025. “Perez still has a contract until 2024. It all depends on him,” he said.
“If he performs in the same manner as he finished in his last race (in 2023), he could easily talk about a further extension.”
Daniel Ricciardo, who returned last year with Red Bull’s sister team AlphaTauri (currently Visa Cash Up RB), is a strong candidate, but will be challenged by Marko. “Ricardo has to show that he has strict control over Tsunoda (Yuki),” Marco said in an interview.
“So he could be a candidate. – But you asked me out on a date. I’m sure you’ll already have some ideas ready by the summer holidays.
