Georgia Bulldogs football fan Trent “Big Dawg III” Woods dies

 

A UGA fan who carried on his family’s famous tradition of having a bulldog painted on his head died Monday.

 

 

 

 

A Georgia football fan known for carrying on the family tradition of having a bulldog painted on the top of his head died Monday. Trent Woods, known as “Big Dawg III,” hails from Athens and could easily be spotted at Sanford Stadium on a Saturday in the fall. He was 45 years old. A friend of Woods’, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Woods had been suffering from undisclosed health issues for several weeks and his death shocked his family.

 

Trent’s grandfather, Ronnie Woods, known as the original “Big Dog,” started the tradition of head painting in 1981 when Georgia played in the national championship game against Notre Dame. Trent’s father, “Big Dawg II” Mike Woods, continued the tradition until his death in 2017.

 

“My life has been all about Georgia football,” Trent said on ESPN’s College Gameday segment in 2018. “Family and Georgian Soccer”

Trent Woods, known as “Big Dawg His Third,” is an Athens native and could easily be spotted at Sanford Stadium on a Saturday in the fall. He was 45 years old.

 

A friend of Woods’, speaking on condition of anonymity, said Woods had been suffering from undisclosed health issues for several weeks and his death stunned his family. Trent’s grandfather, Ronnie Woods, known as the original “Big Dog,” started the tradition of head painting in 1981 when Georgia faced Notre Dame in the national championship.

 

Trent’s father, “Big Dawg II” Mike Woods, continued the tradition until his death in 2017. “My whole life was all about Georgia football,” Trent said in the 2018 ESPN College Game Day segment “Family and Georgia Football.
