Borussia Dortmund are in talks with Chelsea to sign Jan Maatsen in the January transfer window, according to reports in the Netherlands.
The 21-year-old was close to leaving Chelsea in the summer but turned down a £31.5m move to Burnley on transfer deadline day. Since then, Maatsen has struggled to establish a regular role in Mauricio Pochettino’s side and has made just one Premier League appearance so far this season.
According to Voetbal International, Dortmund are interested in signing Maatsen in the future and are already in talks with Chelsea. Earlier this month, Pochettino admitted Maatsen had struggled to develop in the summer after impressing in Chelsea’s pre-season.
“Young players can sometimes surprise you during training, but you have to give them time to rest after training. Sometimes they struggle,” said Pochettino.
“He’s part of our team and he’s a great kid. He has great qualities and can play in a variety of positions, but give him time. Joined from Burnley in the Championship last season.
