David Beckham had a heated row with former McLaren F1 team boss Ron Dennis while on holiday in the Maldives.

The incident happened on New Year’s Eve 2016 when Beckham became enraged by Dennis’ comments. The couple were on holiday with family at the luxurious Amilla Fushi resort, where the Beckhams rang in the New Year with celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and his family.

According to The Sun, Beckham reserved a front row seat for his wife Victoria and son Cruz to watch the show, but Dennis and a group of 30 people sat in a reserved space. When Beckham’s staff asked Dennis to leave, he replied: “I paid the most money on the island. I deserve to be here.”

The comments sparked outrage and angered F1 bosses. A source told the Sun: “There was a name on the table that Ron didn’t notice.” “He thought he could stay wherever he wanted.

“But when the Beckhams finished eating, they found the place full. Vex was furious. It was a throwback to his early football days when he showed character on the field. “He never caught up. He thought Ron was rude. He was so upset that he felt he had to sit in his seat even though the line was in full view of the other customers. I really liked this couple.”

Resort staff intervened and found Dennis and his party chairs elsewhere, and he apologized to Beckham the next day. A spokesman for Dennis said: “It was a tempest in a teacup. They have known each other for many years. The next morning, everything was forgotten.”

But this year will be different. Dennis was knighted in the New Year’s honors list for services to industry and charity. But Beckham was rejected again. The football legend was awarded an OBE at the Queen’s Birthday Awards in 2003 but has not been honored since. In 2017, Beckham called the awards committee a “disappointing disgrace” in a series of emails. Beckham said he later admitted to friends that some of the emails were “fabricated” but that he wrote others “in the heat of the moment”.
