Jon Rahm’s reported £450 million contract with LIV Golf

LIV Golf’s profits have been hit by Jon Rahm’s £450m bonus in a worrying report about the Saudi league.

Jon Rahm was paid £450m to join LIV Golf earlier this month, but despite their backing, there doesn’t seem to be much in return for his Saudi backers.

Jon Rahm’s £450m deal with LIV Golf is six times the leaders’ earnings for their first full campaign since 2023.

The LIV range has emerged on the professional golf scene in the past 18 months thanks to support from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF). The wealth of the Saudi foundation has allowed its board to attract some of the biggest names in sports.

Their latest hit is their biggest yet, as Greg Norman and co acquire the services of one of the PGA Tour’s most valuable assets, Masters champion Rahm. Naturally, the Spaniard’s signature was expensive. Rahm signed a record deal.

The Saudi supporters put a lot of effort into the LIV competition, but they don’t seem to get much of a return. According to a report from Golf.com, the 2023 breakeven range is worth less than £78.5 million ($100 million), a far cry from Rahm’s mega-dollar deal.
