happy new year!
2023 has brought drama and mayhem to the game, and while it would be nice if things calmed down a bit on the men’s side, there’s no guarantee that will happen. But let’s turn fun into happy moments. The special event on the calendar is scheduled for 2024. This year is the Olympic Games, and the games are taking place in Paris. The women have a wonderful summer semester, including a week of prior classes. There are several other important anniversaries. Here are nine things we’re looking forward to in 2024: These are the items you’re listening to in the order they appear on the calendar.
The first competition in its third year will be held at El Camaleon Golf Course in Mexico. It is included on this list for several reasons. First, there are less than five weeks to go, and it will be interesting to see what the professional golf landscape looks like then. Who Will Join Jon Rahm’s Team? Will more PGA Tour players join him? And it may have been the first time Lam awkwardly announced that he had been given “strict instructions” not to speak in public or hold public events.
Golf loves anniversaries. This event commemorates 50 years since the PGA Tour victory. While LIV’s top players still can’t participate, this will be the biggest event of the year so far, and you can expect the tournament to feature all the bells and whistles.
That’s great. I’ll combine all four major men’s events into one post. But sport is more important than ever and it’s the only time we get to see the world’s best athletes compete against each other. The Masters, April 11-14: Golf fans wait nine months for a new major, and it’s always worth the wait. No place in the game has more tradition than Augusta National. This year marks 20 years since Phil Mickelson won his first Masters (and first major), 40 years since Ben Crenshaw won his first green jacket and Arnold Palmer won the legendary final major for the third time. This year marks the 60th anniversary of the win. the title. job.
PGA Championship, May 16-19: We return to Valhalla outside Louisville this year for Rory McIlroy’s second PGA Championship and his final major victory. This is correct. It’s been 10 years since the Championship ended in total darkness. McIlroy beat Mickelson on the final hole to make it back-to-back wins. It’s been 10 years since Lee Trevino cleared 67-69 to win a major this weekend in his last shot at Shoal Creek 40 years ago in 1984. U.S. Open, June 13-16: Whenever the U.S. runner-up The Open returns to Pinehurst, as this year brings back memories of Payne Stewart’s birdie on the final hole to beat Mickelson. This year marks the 25th anniversary of Stewart’s victory four months before he tragically died in a plane crash. The Open, July 18-21: McIlroy again. This year at Royal Troon, McIlroy won 10 years ago at Royal Liverpool. 40 years ago on the Old Course, Seve Ballesteros shot a final-round 69 to beat Bernhard Langer and Tom Watson by two shots. It was Ballesteros’ second Open title. And 70 years ago, 23-year-old Peter Thomson won the first of five Open Championships at Royal Birkdale.
World Golf Hall of Fame induction ceremony, June 10
Padraig Harrington, Tom Weiskopf, Sandra Palmer, Beverly Hanson, Johnny Farrell and the seven LPGA co-founders not yet inducted into the Hall of Fame: Alice Bauer, Betty Danoff, Helen Detweiler, Helen Hicks, Opal Hill, Shirley Spork and Sally Sessions She is induced. In addition, the newly established World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst will celebrate a coming out party after more than 20 years in St. Augustine, Florida. I expect Harrington’s speech to be pretty epic. He has always been one of the most caring people in the game. Watching her beauty swing a golf ball and love the game will give you an idea of what to expect.
