The Dallas Cowboys need a win on Sunday. Thanks to the Arizona Cardinals, the Cowboys are in control of their own destiny, and if they walk out of FedEx Field with a win Sunday afternoon, they’ll have the No. 2 seed in the NFC East and the NFC Playoffs (game) . It is played on the evening route). Dallas started as heavy favorites (13.5 point favorites to be exact) in this game, which suggested they would win relatively easily. Aside from the panic and fear that usually accompanies big moments in sports and the occasional hurt feelings from our teams who have dropped such games in the past, the Cowboys seem to be doing well for business. The Washington Commanders currently have the second overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Let’s be as clear as possible about this: The Command Organization has no incentive to win this game. As a franchise, they are clearly in a place of transition, change and adaptation. They believe they will move on from Ron Rivera next week. You would think they would want the best premium resources to hire the right head coach and use those resources to help their team.
The Big Ten is the second choice, but the New England Patriots and Arizona Cardinals also have 4-12 records, as do the Commanders. If the commander wins, he can enter the recruiting order.
Obviously, this is a division rivalry and Washington wants to keep it to the Cowboys and hurt Dallas’ chances of improving their playoff position. But at what cost? Would you like to help the Philadelphia Eagles? Opponents from other divisions? There’s always pride, but the Cowboys upset doesn’t hurt the rivalry as a whole. Washington took the No. 2 spot four years ago (Happy Birthday!), beating out quarterbacks like Justin Herbert and Tua Tagovailoa. Young’s future is bright, but it’s hard to imagine Washington not wanting a rematch if given the chance. Especially considering they traded Young before the deadline this offseason. The general idea here is that everyone’s interests coincide on Sunday. A Cowboy’s win is the Cowboy’s best result, and a Commander’s loss is the Commander’s best result.
