Patrick Cantlay reveals LIV Golf intentions, rebuffs claim he’s ‘in control’ of PGA Tour

Patrick Cantlay spoke about LIV Golf’s intentions, claiming the layoffs put it “in control” of the PGA Tour.

Patrick Cantlay told Golf Magazine that he doesn’t think he’ll leave the PGA Tour until 2023, even though he hasn’t met LIV Golf.

“It depends on your values, priorities, etc. It’s based on personal calculations,” Cantley told Golf Magazine. “So I don’t think it’s surprising that there’s a certain type of player there. For me? I have no plans to join LIV. I don’t want to be a member of LIV. I see myself playing on the PGA Tour.”

Cantlay served on the PGA Tour’s policy committee for the first time in 2023, and that hasn’t stopped LIV from staying involved.

“I declined the offer,” Cantlay said. “Before and after joining the council. The last offer received was rejected at a meeting where management presented it to me.

Cantlay is currently in “control” of the PGA Tour, managing its future amid negotiations with Saudi Arabia’s Sovereign Investment Fund, which funds LIV, according to the report.

“If you look at the facts, I think it’s impossible for one player to take over,” he said. “What I mean is that it’s impossible to control all the players together. We only have half the seats on the council, and major votes on the issues we discuss require a two-thirds majority. In addition, Tour (investment bank) Allen and Co. As it was rented and discussed prior to the conclusion of the travel contract, it is submitted that, on the totality of the facts, this cannot be true. Business”.

In response to speculation that the US Ryder Cup team room had been split, Cantlay and his friend Xander Schauffele joined players demanding financial compensation, but Cantlay denied the claims. “I love events like this, I love representing other players and team captains,” said the 2021 FedEx Cup champion. This was one of my favorite weeks and memories of golf. I am very worried about the Ryder Cup and the United States Ryder Cup. I’m going to work with the guys, have fun and try to bring home a trophy. “There were no empty seats. If you ask all the vice-captains, captains and players, they’ll tell you this is one of the closest dressing rooms they’ve ever been involved in.”
