Steelers BY named new starting safety.

Injuries and brutal suspensions have left the Pittsburgh Steelers in a tough spot with a weak safety group as they try to finish the regular season strong and make a late playoff push. While the safety ranks are depleted, the Steelers have elevated veteran Myles Killebrew to a strong starting position on the depth chart for this week’s road game against the Seattle Seahawks. Trenton Thompson, who is nursing a neck injury, is listed as Killebrew’s backup. Killebrew is also listed as the backup for Minkah Fitzpatrick, who is questionable to play safety against the Seahawks with a knee injury. Killebrew played in 127 games over eight seasons in the NFL, but only five of them were starts. He is a great team player and captain, but has limited defensive experience. Killebrew played 3,250 snaps during his career, 78% of which came on special teams. He hasn’t played more than 8% of the defensive snaps in a season since 2017, and 7% of the defensive snaps in 2023 is the most Killebrew has had since playing 8% of the snaps- defensive tackles with the Detroit Lions in the 2019 season. He has 18 tackles, one tackle against a safety, one tackle for loss and four interceptions this season. He is tied for second among all NFL teams in 2021. Despite completing 72 percent of the passes he faced this season, Killebrew has yet to record a missed tackle in the 2023 season. Get the latest news, exclusive interviews, movie recaps and more.
