Helmut Marko gives Red Bull update after comments in favor of Lewis Hamilton.
Red Bull will move into the unknown in 2026 as it introduces its own powertrains under new technical regulations.
Helmut Marko has announced that the development of Red Bull’s first power plant project is underway. He previously predicted the Milton Keynes team would be second to Mercedes in the engine race, but mostly ahead of Ferrari and Audi.
Red Bull currently uses an engine made by Japanese manufacturer Honda following a freeze caused by the announcement of its retirement from the sport. However, the current constructors’ champions will have their own production engines running in 2026 when the sport’s new technical regulations come into effect.
Honda then announced its return to the sport, signing an exclusive deal to supply engines to the Aston Martin team once the new regulations come into force. The Silverstone team has long been a Mercedes customer team but has looked elsewhere to secure a leading position.
Marco spoke about development progress with Austrian news organization OE24: “We are still far from a competitive implementation, but everything is going according to plan and the performance curves are correct.”
