McLaren F1 CEO Zach Brown paid tribute to Gilles de Ferran in his 2024 pre-season update following the death of the team’s former sporting director aged 56.
The F1 world was shocked by news of the French-born Brazilian’s death at the end of 2023, as the motorsport community came together to pay tribute to the former Indy500 winner. De Ferran was the team’s sporting director from 2018 to 2021 and had an advisory role with the Woking team.
Ahead of the start of the new season, McLaren manager Brown shared some heartwarming words as he looked ahead to 2024. “Our team and we are preparing for the start of the season for all series.
“Unfortunately, we start the year without our beloved friend and colleague Gil, but he is still with us. “We are inspired by every aspect of his passion, unwavering determination and competitive spirit as we strive to make this year one to remember.”
“Thank you Gil for giving me the helmet and the precious memories.”
