Luke Littler was “very upset” after missing three
Luke Littler was “very upset” after missing three darts against Luke Humphries which could have kept his World Cup hopes alive.
The 16-year-old sensation is aiming to become the youngest world darts champion in history after a stunning performance at Alexandra Palace. He met world number one Humphreys in the final in the capital on Wednesday. After dropping the opening set, young Humphreys took a 4-2 lead and went on to record five stunning wins to win 7-4. In the 11th and final set, Littler had a chance to fight back but missed three darts to win.
Littler hit a double 8 to close out the win. Littler immediately embraced his counterpart, but admitted he was disappointed with how things turned out.
That was the only downside. I couldn’t catch the thrown ball and I couldn’t win. All the games were great, but it was very frustrating, especially when I missed three games to continue.
“That’s what the crowd wanted, but fair play to Luke. He deserves it.”
Despite the loss, Littler has made remarkable progress to become one of the new stars of British sport, climbing more than 130 places in the world rankings.
“I’ve made the final and I might not make the final for another five or 10 years, but I can say I’m second and now I just want to win.” “This,” he said. Humphreys, who is 12 years older than tonight’s opponent, explained that he was particularly motivated to win because he believed Littler would “dominate the darts”.
“I’ve been thinking all day: Buy this now because it will soon dominate world darts. “He’s a great player. Even when I was trying to win, he was still ruthless. He’s a great talent, but I should have won tonight. I am sure he will win a lot.
