Sauber F1 technical director James Kay said it won’t be a “finished product” until 2027, when the team enters its second year under Audi.

Alfa Romeo, which will compete under a completely new name next year, finished ninth in the 2023 Constructors’ Championship, just four points ahead of bottom-placed Haas. While all eyes are on 2026 and the arrival of Audi, Key warned people not to get their hopes up too high.

The former McLaren man admitted there is still a lot of work to do and 2026 could still be the year that makes the team. Audi plans to enter F1 in 2026. 2023 was a difficult season for Alfa Romeo Zhou Guanyu (left) and Valtteri Bottas (left) will work with the team in 2024.

Audi F1: by 2027 we will have a finished product

“Of course, for those who have a gardening season, there is a period of time. So we know that.” Key told Motorsport.com. “Of course we don’t expect that. Now you can do more without the need for additional people.

“But ultimately, to achieve our goals, we need to expand in every key area, in fact every area. No matter where we are in the process, there must be steps everywhere.

“So this is a short-term ambition. We are currently working closely with Andreas [Zeidl] in this field not only for 24 years, but also for the future. So let’s see what happens.

“There is still a lot to do, so it is unlikely that the expected final results will be available on the 27th. “But as we got closer to 26, we were in much better shape. This allows us to take the necessary action.”
