Former F1 driver suffers cardiac arrest after choking on Christmas dinner

The 80-year-old competed in 35 races at the highest level of single-seater racing between 1972 and 1975 before forming the eponymous team with his older brother and former F1 world champion Emerson. However, Fittipaldi Jr.’s wife confirmed what happened at Christmas dinner in an Instagram post: “During dinner, he choked on a piece of meat and went into cardiac arrest due to lack of oxygen.
“He was resuscitated and is now sedated and intubated and we are waiting for him to wake up. “He’s had a difficult post-op history and is back from sedation. We’ll just wait a day.”
His wife added: “Yesterday I received many calls and messages of support from the whole family.”
“Thank you for all the messages. I know they give us strength in these difficult times. “Keep the positive health and healing vibes going for Willsinho. God will do his best.”
