Red Bull’s design maestro Adrian Newey hailed as ‘irreplaceable’ in Formula 1 dynamics
Red Bull design creator Adrian Newey has been hailed as “irreplaceable” in Formula 1 mechanics.
An icon of Formula 1 design, Newey joined Red Bull in 2006 and has amassed over 200 Grand Prix wins and over 12 constructors’ championships across three teams.
Newey officially stepped down from his key role in F1 in 2014 to pursue various projects at Red Bull, but Veitch said his influence was much needed. “He’s indispensable,” said Woche, who took over as technical director in 2018. “Yes, he’s irreplaceable!” Follow Newey’s lasting impact on the team’s competitiveness on motorsport.com.
Although not involved in day-to-day operations, Newey’s contributions take a unique form. Described as a “sounding box”, it provides insight, tests ideas and goes the extra mile to bring rich motorsport experiences to life. Wach explains, “He comes from many different aspects and tries to help us or challenge different aspects of the team. It could be mechanical design, aerodynamics or vehicle dynamics.”These dynamic interactions, along with Newey’s ability to see things differently than the team, add valuable insights, providing a springboard for innovation.
