The former F1 driver described Hamilton’s season

The former F1 driver described Hamilton’s season as “historic”. Third place doesn’t matter to him.

Lewis Hamilton, who finished third in the Drivers’ Championship, can be considered a success this year. But the former F1 driver doesn’t think he’ll be satisfied. Former F1 driver Karen Chandhok believes Lewis Hamilton had a “historic” 2023 season after finishing third in the Drivers’ Championship.

The Mercedes driver struggled in W13 2022 and finished sixth in the championship. Despite not winning a race all year, Hamilton took his first pole since the 2021 Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in Hungary.

Chandok, a seven-time world champion, highlighted his favorite moments from the entire season. “I think it was a good year, a year where he had a great road, Mexico performed really well and Spain did well on the podium,” he told the Sky Sports F1 podcast. “Lewis Hamilton showed his greatest potential with a very strong vintage ride.

On the other hand, races like Qatar’s poor qualification in Miami have heated up a bit over the past three weeks. “The team was in collective shock in Brazil but just disappeared in Vegas and Abu Dhabi.”

Hamilton recorded six podiums and had the chance to finish second behind Sergio Perez, who had a poor performance in the championship.

But the Mexican pulled off a historic one-two for Red Bull after a disappointing weekend for Mercedes in Brazil. That could be considered a success for Hamilton after another difficult season, but Chandok believes the overall result is not what matters.

“It was a good season overall for Lewis, but he didn’t mind finishing third in the championship,” said Chandok. “I think if you asked him how many times he finished third in a championship, he probably wouldn’t know. He is there to win. “The biggest question for me next season is ‘What will Mercedes give the drivers?’

“I still think they have the best driver in F1 and have done since they signed George. As a neutral country, the whole world wants to see them fight with Max and Ferrari for the World Championship.
