The former Ravens gun even believes the backup can beat the Steelers in Week 18.

The Ravens could still make a deal against the Steelers, the former first-round pick says.

Three weeks ago, the Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to be in complete disarray after losing their third straight game on Saturday, December 16th. With the final game of the regular season approaching, they have a chance to clinch the seventh and final AFC playoff spot. And their opponent will be an undermanned Baltimore Ravens team. Presumptive NFL MVP Lamar Jackson will not play in Saturday’s game, and standout backup Tyler Huntley will start at quarterback. Other starters are also expected to rest and recover before the No. 1 seed begins its postseason journey in the divisional round. But one former Ravens player doesn’t think the absence will be a problem.

“Given the state of the offense in Pittsburgh, I think we can still win,” retired wide receiver and 2005 first-round pick Mark Clayton said on Ravens Talk with Samuel Njoku, via Steelers Depot’s Joe Clark . “The same goes for backups. It’s going down.”

Clayton has full confidence in Baltimore defensive coordinator Mike McDonald’s ability to stop the Steelers offense. Pittsburgh has been much more efficient the past two games since coach Mike Tomlin switched quarterbacks.

Mason Rudolph is running the football making big plays, tight end George Pickens is approaching 300 yards rushing and Naji Harris is playing his best football in over a month. That previously sputtering offensive engine is running as well as it has all season.

But the sudden turn of events should come as no surprise to anyone. Mark Clayton has vision for the Ravens, but the team has a strong defense that can set the tone early. The Steelers underestimate this small team. Make no mistake though. The impact of desperation on performance can never be underestimated. Alex House is a multi-sport sports writer.
