McLaren boss predicts SHOCK F1 title
McLaren CEO Zak Brown predicted a revival for Lewis Hamilton and predicted a repeat challenge for Max Verstappen for the Drivers’ Championship.
Hamilton, who has not won for two years, will be keen to snap his winning streak and Brown believes there could be some fierce competition on the grid next season. Brown’s insight comes as Red Bull team principal Christian Horner admitted there had been “diminishing success” in car development.
Red Bull prepare for pre-season testing with a further improved car, but there is still time to catch up to their rivals and Brown sees Mercedes and Ferrari demanding to close the gap. McLaren CEO Zach Brown expects the title race to heat up this year. Brown sees Lewis Hamilton as a real World Championship contender in 2024. Brown also believes Ferrari can threaten Red Bull and Max Verstappen.
BROWN: It’s tough and there’s a lot of competition.
The emergence of seven-time world champion Hamilton as a title challenger would be a surprising turn of events given Mercedes’ inconsistent second place position of late.
However, Brown draws parallels with the remarkable progress made by McLaren in the previous year and points out that it is possible to make significant improvements in a short period of time. “At the same time, these teams – Mercedes, Ferrari – have everything they need and are great teams,” he told Speedcafe.
“If we were sitting here, I wouldn’t be surprised if all of a sudden Mercedes won their eighth title with Lewis (Hamilton). “So it’s very tough and competitive right now.”
