The Boston Red Sox are looking to improve their roster in any way possible, including trading this player.

The Boston Red Sox brought new leadership to their front office as Craig Breslow replaced Chaim Blum as the team’s chief baseball officer. So far, the team hasn’t gotten the big free agent fans they’ve wanted, but they’ve made some changes to the roster. Most notably, the team traded outfielder Alex Verdugo to the New York Yankees and starting pitcher Chris Sale to the Atlanta Braves for Von Grissom. One area that has undergone extensive repairs is the construction site. As mentioned above, Verdugo was traded from Boston and the team moved to St. Louis. Acquired Tyler O’Neal from St. Louis Cardinals. But will the team be ready?

The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey and Ken Rosenthal are in center, as is Red Sox free agent Teoscar Hernandez. They want to improve other parts of the roster and shed salary before signing him. Both reporters emphasized that the Red Sox are open to anything to improve their roster, including a trade for outfielder Masataka Yoshida. Although McCaffrey and Rosenthal have publicly stated that the Red Sox will not trade Yoshida, several teams have inquired about his services. “I am concerned that Hernandez addresses the Red Sox’s power needs,” McCaffrey and Rosenthal wrote. But the Red Sox want to address other parts of the roster and shed some salary before signing free agents, according to a person with knowledge of the negotiations. “Several teams have inquired about Yoshida, and while the Red Sox are not actively recruiting him, they are open to any ideas to build a better roster.”

After starting his career with the Orix Buffaloes of Nippon Professional Baseball, Yoshida decided to sign a five-year, $90 million contract with the Red Sox.

There was criticism about the recruitment at the time, but Yoshida seemed to silence it at the start of the season. Before the All-Star break, Yoshida had a .316 batting average, .382 on-base percentage, .492 slugging percentage, 10 home runs, 44 RBI, 47 runs, 95 hits, 36 of hits and 27 walks in 301 at- bats. . . However, his numbers dipped after the All-Star break, according to McCaffrey and Rosenthal. Yoshida had 236 plate appearances, hitting .254/.278/.386 with 5 home runs, 24 runs, 28 RBI, 60 hits, 45 strikeouts and 7 strikeouts.

Playing primarily as a left fielder, Yoshida had a .977 slugging percentage, 125 RBIs, 5 RBIs and 3 RBIs in 133 total opportunities. The Red Sox signed Yoshida, but there was a new system led by Breslow. With other parts of the roster still unfilled, the team seems open to trading Yoshida if he can help turn things around. However, it appears that the team’s current plans do not include a trade.
