HARRISON, N.J. New York Red Bulls defender John Tolkin has been named to the US Men’s National Team for January training camp, USA Soccer announced today.

Tolkien, 21, is in his fifth season with the New York Red Bulls. Tolkien has played in 86 games in his MLS career, including 80 starts. He had five goals and 11 assists, including a season-high six assists last season. Tolkien recorded 10 assists in all competitions last season, setting franchise records for most assists by a home team player in a season and most assists by a defender in a season. He currently has the most assists by a defender in franchise history across all competitions: 15. The Chatham, New Jersey native was called up to the senior team for the third time in his final call-up for the 2023 CONCACAF Gold Cup. Tolkien has three career goals for the USMNT in two starts. This will be his fifth international cap this year after making three appearances at two U.S. Olympic camps in October and November.

Tolkien and the USMNT will be in camp in Orlando, Florida from January 8-16, and the team is scheduled to play Slovenia on January 20 at Toyota Field in San Antonio, Texas. It is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. ET covering TNT, Telemundo, Universo, Max and Peacock.
