F1 team strikes major Mercedes deal
Williams Racing has confirmed that Mercedes-Benz will continue to supply engines to the team beyond the 2026 F1 season.
Extending the partnership into the new regulatory technology era of 2026 reflects both teams’ commitment to excellence and innovation dating back to the start of the hybrid era in 2014. It is important to note that future power plants will use 100% sustainable fuel and strictly adhere to sustainability standards. Performance improvements include an advanced electrical system with a single 350 kW electric motor. This is almost three times more powerful than the current MGU-K. Importantly, the development of these advanced power plants is subject to cost containment regulations that ensure financial sustainability and maximize productivity.
“We have had a long-standing partnership with Mercedes-Benz and we are delighted to extend that partnership into the next era of Formula 1,” said Williams team principal James Vowles. “The experience, support and technology offered by Mercedes are perfectly aligned with our team’s mid- and long-term ambitions.
“This long-term agreement with Mercedes is a positive step and is part of our goals for the future, while maintaining our design and manufacturing expertise and capabilities.”
“We are delighted to confirm that Williams Racing is the second customer team to supply the regulations for the 2026 powertrain,” added Wolff. “Today’s news demonstrates the strength of the Mercedes-Benz F1 offering and, most importantly, confirms and strengthens our overall motorsport strategy.
“Since 2014, we have continued to build and evolve our relationship with Williams. “We look forward to supporting the team by providing power packs as they continue to lay the groundwork for network testing.
