Lewis Hamilton spent five years at McLaren before making the surprising decision to join them and hasn’t looked back since.

Mercedes star Lewis Hamilton received a stylish birthday message from his former team McLaren. The Briton turns 39 today (Sunday, January 7) and will be hoping for further success on the road before he retires from Formula 1.

Hamilton is one of F1’s most decorated drivers. He has the most drivers’ championships (7) and the most race wins (103). Most of his wins have come since he joined Mercedes in 2013, but McLaren has played a pivotal role in his career.
After moving up to karting and competing in GP2, Hamilton joined the team in 2007, working alongside defending champion Fernando Alonso. The Brit beat his team-mate in his debut season and went one step further the following year, finishing second in the championship.
Hamilton spent the next two seasons trying to repeat the feat before announcing he would be joining Mercedes and has never looked back since. However, McLaren are still keeping hold of the Stevenage-born star.

On Sunday morning, the team posted a congratulatory message to Hamilton on X, formerly known as Twitter, along with a photo of him in action as a McLaren driver. The message read: “Happy birthday to seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton.
“Thanks for all the memories. Mr. Lewis, have a nice day. The tweet garnered more than 6,000 likes in three hours, with many wishing Hamilton the best of luck.
Mercedes then wrote: “He is a seven-time world champion. It is a game changer and a game changer. he is king Happy birthday @LewisHamilton.

The official F1 account said: “Happy Birthday Sir Lewis Hamilton!” wrote.

The Mercedes star will be hoping to win again at the age of 39. Former driver Kristian Albers is adamant that Red Bull’s Max Verstappen is the only one who can stop him from dominating another season.
“As a neutral observer, I expect Mercedes to come out with a better car in 2024,” he told De Telegraaf. Because when you look at the quality of the current drivers, I think Lewis Hamilton is the only one who can come close to Verstappen.
“I’m mainly talking about the consistent quality of performance during the race and the very consistent lap times. “Like Verstappen, Hamilton is also a good tire man. He assesses certain situations and feels the rubber; in that sense, they are alone.”
