Hartford Athletic signs Quarterback Jordan Scarlett

Hartford Athletic have signed defender Jordan Scarlett ahead of the 2024 season, pending league and federation approval.

“I’m really grateful to be able to play the game that captured my heart again. “Coming from New York and signing with Hartford feels like a homecoming, especially given my past experiences in the Eastern Conference,” Scarlett said. “The passion of the Hartford fans has always resonated with me and I look forward to their continued support. We have a talented and exciting group of players in this team and I’m sure our fans will be watching every week.

Scarlett comes to Hartford in his eighth season in the USL Championship, having played over 12,000 minutes in a total of 157 games. He signed with Louisville City ahead of the 2023 season, but his season was cut short after three games due to a knee injury that required surgery. The 28-year-old enjoyed three great seasons with the Tampa Bay Rowdies from 2020 to 2022, where he was one of the club’s defensive leaders. In 79 games (73 starts), he totaled 207 tackles, 121 interceptions and 88 tackles. The Rowdies conceded 27 goals in Scarlett’s three years in 2021 and advanced to the Eastern Conference finals. That year, Tampa Bay broke the record by going 891 minutes without giving up a goal. The Scarlets have anchored their back line. “Jordan is the type of player we want to have again.” head coach and general manager Brendan Burke said. “He is an aggressive defender, puts pressure on the ball and has great aerial skills. He also brings a wealth of postseason experience to our group. “I look forward to seeing how he leads our starting quarterbacks this year.”

Born in Jamaica, Scarlett grew up in the Bronx and played college at nearby Iona University before being selected by the New York Red Bulls in the 2017 Major League Soccer SuperDraft. He spent his first three professional seasons with New York Red Bulls II from 2017 to 2019. At international level, Scarlett made his debut in June 2022 when Jamaica faced Mexico in the CONCACAF Nations League. Hartford’s 2024 roster continues to grow with more announcements to come!
