McLaren show off unusual notes left to F1 legend
McLaren has shared a collection of motivational comments left behind the wheel of James Hunt in a series of historic Formula 1 photos.
Hunt is considered one of the most talented drivers of his generation and his 1976 World Championship victory went down in Formula 1 history. The Briton’s fight with the late Niki Lauda took the world by storm and was later turned into the 2014 blockbuster Rush, which earned him two Golden Globe Awards and four BAFTA Award nominations.
In seven seasons in the sport, Hunt took ten Grand Prix victories before embarking on a successful commentary career alongside legendary driver Murray Walker. Now McLaren have released some of the messages of support that were plastered on Hunt’s steering wheel during his time at McLaren to encourage him ahead of the race.
One comment read: “It may only have four corners, but it still needs brakes!” It’s said:
Another person said: “Dear James, glad to hear it’s nothing new. Dad, go away!!”
