Peter Vecsey calls out Bob Myers for almost trading Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
Legendary NBA writer Peter Vecsey lashed out at Bob Myers after the NFL’s Washington Chiefs hired the former Golden State Warriors general manager as an adviser. When NFL insider Ian Rapoport credited Myers as the man who built the Warriors’ dynasty, Vecsey made it clear that was not the case. “Guess again: Myers didn’t draft the Warriors. Curry, Klay and Green were drafted by previous management.” He traded all three at two separate prices. The Bucks chose to go with Monta Ellis and Curry, and former former Jerry West suspended Klay and Green for Kevin Love.\”
It started in April 2011 when the Warriors hired him as Larry Riley’s assistant general manager. He did not serve long as an assistant, as Myers was promoted to general manager a year later on April 11, 2012.
Although Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson had already been drafted by Riley when he took over, under Myers Draymond Green was selected with the 35th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. He may have played a big role in shaping Thompson in 2011, but he was certainly the same when it came to Green.
Now let’s look at the trade-off that Vexy mentioned. First, the Warriors almost traded Curry to the Milwaukee Bucks in 2012, but his ankle injuries caused the Bucks’ medical staff to say he wasn’t worth a trade.
Because of these concerns, Monta Ellis was traded to Milwaukee in March 2012 to replace Curry. This transaction lasted a month after a month after Mieliers passed the role of GM, but thinks it is a big word before that.
Then we are in 2014, when the soldiers get worse with the love of Thomson and Kevin. The reason it didn’t go through was Jerry West, as Vecsey pointed out. He was a member of the Warriors’ executive board and was vehemently against trading Klay. The warriors eventually heard the West and opposed themselves. When he seemed ridiculous, he seemed so afraid at that time. However, that would be a huge mistake, and Myers had no problem with it.
Years later, West explained that he didn’t want to trade Thompson for love. He felt Klay was the perfect player for Curry, and it’s safe to say West was right.
So Myers almost ended the dynasty before it really began. There were many cases of vexy and I mixed it, I destroyed it and I saw it.
In 2011, the soldiers tried to deal with Curry and Thompson Chris Paul and tried not to accept it to extend it to Paul. It was Myers who made the offer to New Orleans Hornets general manager Dell Demps, and he and the Warriors were lucky Paul turned it down.
In 2012, the Warriors wanted to trade Thompson for James Harden, but GM Sam Presti backed out of the deal. Presti called the Warriors and asked about a possible trade involving Klay, and Golden State was fine with including him in the deal, but there was a caveat.
The Thunder had to choose between the contract of Andris Biedrins or Richard Jefferson, and Presti never responded to that offer. If he accepts the deal, Thompson would be sent to OKC.
As you can see, Myers almost brought down the dynasty several times before it even started. Maybe not everything Vexy said was right, but Myers never expected the trio to become such a hit.
