Red Bull To Unleash $6M RB17 Hypercar In 2024 With 1,233 HP
Christian Horner says Red Bull is ready to unveil its RB17 hypercar this year.
Red Bull Racing knows how to build a car, as evidenced by its overflowing trophy cabinet. So far he has built only one type: the F1 car. We will see how the first hypercar attempt will look this year.
The Red Bull RB17 is neither an F1 car nor really a road car and was first announced in 2022. Billed as an unrestricted hypercar for the track, it was designed by F1 legend Adrian Newey, produces 1,233 hp (919 kW / 1,250 hp) and features hybrid technology.
Unfortunately, many other important details about this car remain secret. However, in a recent interview with Sky Sports, Red Bull F1 team principal Christian Horner said we’ll know more when this year’s car is fully revealed.
While we eagerly await more official information about the car, reports suggest that the car’s incredible power will be powered by a twin-turbo V8 engine developed by an unknown third party. This is assisted by an F1-style energy recovery system that allows the driver to top up the torque.
Newey has previously stated that he is only aiming for 900kg, which would be an amazing achievement. This makes it lighter than the Aston Martin Valkyrie AMR Pro it was built on its inputs. However, it is 48 kg heavier than the Gordon Murray Automotive T.50. Thanks to the work of the designers on the car, we can see that it uses air efficiently. Interestingly, he suggested that Red Bull Racing would use ground effect, an aerodynamic principle they have shown more skill at than their F1 rivals, which really demonstrates Newey’s genius. Red Bull plans to produce a total of 50 RB17s per year at a rate of 15, with deliveries starting in 2025. Buyers are estimated to need £5m (€6.37m at current exchange rates) for a single purchase. However, you should know beforehand that even if you pay this amount, it cannot be driven on public roads as it is a road-only hypercar.
