Gunther Steiner was sacked from the Haas F1 team.
Kevin Magnussen made an important statement after Gunther Steiner was sacked from the Haas F1 team.
Haas announced on Wednesday that Ayao Komatsu has replaced former team principal Gunther Steiner, six weeks before the start of the new F1 season.
Kevin Magnussen thanked his boss Gunther Steiner for the “never dull” time they had together at Haas.
Steiner has led the American Formula 1 team since its first season on the grid in 2016. But on Wednesday it was revealed he had been fired.
In two separate spells, Magnussen headed to Haas under Steiner for six seasons. After the news broke, he paid tribute to his boss in an emotional post on social media.
He wrote: “Thank you, Gunther.” Thank you for starting this journey in 2017 and joining us again in 2022. It’s been fun and challenging, but never boring. Goodbye. May only good things happen to you.”
There’s only one reason why Gunther Steiner was left out of the Haas F1 baby.
Steiner’s replacement will be very familiar to Magnussen and the rest of the team. Ayao Komatsu has been with Haas since 2016, moving from technical director to team principal. In announcing the news, team owner Gene Haas explained that performance was the main reason for his decision. “I would like to thank Gunther Steiner for his hard work over the past 10 years and wish him all the best for the future,” he said. “It was clear that if we were going to move forward as an organization, we needed to improve our performance. The appointment of Ayao Komatsu as team leader put technical management in the spotlight.
