Martin Trainer deserves to participate in the PGA Tour this week after the introduction of Liv Golf Promotions in Sony Open.

Transier entered the preliminary school this week and took a seat during the Hawaii event and succeeded after arriving at six OND-PARs in the qualifiers. The 32-year-old took one of the four spots, followed by Parker Coody at 6 under par.

Because of the dramatic rain, seven players battled it out in a 7-2 play-off to decide the second-last spot, just one shot under five. Norman Xiong and Robert Streb were victorious on Thursday, completing the Sony Open field ahead of the first round. The coach who suggested joining LIV Golf just a month ago was a name that caught the eye after being selected. The 2019 Puerto Rico Open champion entered the promotional event to win a one-year seat on the LIV circuit. Trainor also finished the week in a tie for 7th place, 3 strokes clear of the final day of the event. Norman Xiong and Robert Streb rounded out the Sony Open field ahead of Thursday’s opening round. However, one person who caught the eye during the selection process was the coach who suggested LIV Golf a month ago. The 2019 Puerto Rico Open champion participated in the promotional event to secure a one-year spot on the LIV circuit. LIV’s Q-School event has been a gray area for PGA Tour members amid the ongoing dispute between the two rival tours. From the start of LIV in the summer of 2022, the tournament has decided to ban any player who chooses to join the Saudi-backed league. LIV Promotions appears to have relaxed their stance and initially allowed players to participate, but since this is not an “unsanctioned tournament” the LIV event category is placed in the category it would normally be in. However, it wasn’t long before many reports surfaced that athletes could be punished for participating in Q-School events. The coach himself expressed concern about the financial downsides of the tournament at the time, but seemed confident he would avoid a ban. “We’ll see what happens,” he told Golf Week in December. “Maybe I’ll be fined.”

The coach admitted he has lost his PGA Tour card at the end of 2023 and has switched to LIV events. While I was considering my options and trying to get my books, a strange situation occurred that put me in this predicament. “I think there could be a fine instead of a suspension.” Trainor appears to have suffered no major damage ahead of his return to the PGA Tour later this week. On Thursday, he will face Carl Yuan and Josh Teeter in the opening round of the tournament.
