McIlroy has a ‘dream scenario’ for a new World Tour

As the PGA Tour and LIV Golf continue to discuss the future of the sport, Rory McIlroy says he has a “dream scenario” for a global approach that would provide better access to markets such as Australia, South Africa and Japan.

“All things considered, the stadium should be a big part of the future considerations,” he told Golf Digest in Dubai on Tuesday. “We have to make sure the pitches are suitable for the players who will be competing. My dream scenario is to travel the world realizing that corporate America still has an important role to play. And Saudi Arabia. It’s just basic economics. “But there are still untapped commercial opportunities,” he continued. “Investors always want a return on their money. PGA Tour revenue is currently approximately $2.3 billion. So how do we make this number 4 or 6? To me, this is an outsider’s point of view. We need to think internationally and spread our wings a bit. I’ve been playing those drums for a while.”

The PGA Tour continues to negotiate with the Saudi sovereign wealth fund that funds LIV to finalize the alliance. The deadline was in December. 31.~ It will be extended. In a surprise announcement on June 6, the PGA Tour unveiled a structured agreement combining its interests with the PIF. McIlroy has a new perspective after earlier criticism of two-year-old LIV Golf, which has the financial resources to successfully recruit many PGA Tour players. There are plans to add the Australian Open and South African Open as a way to strengthen the new global circuit.
