Slumbers is also an accomplished golfer and said he registered his handicap in November.

R&A chief executive Martin Slumber is to step down at the end of 2024 after nine years as one of golf’s leading executives.
Slumbers, 63, will step down after overseeing this year’s Open Championship at Royal Troon and the AIG Women’s Open at St Andrews. He succeeded Peter Dawson as chairman of the R&A and secretary of the Royal and Ancient Golf Club after joining the St Andrews-based organization in 2015.
“It was a privilege,” he said. “This is something we are proud to do on behalf of R&A staff, members of The Royal and Ancient Golf Club and all our global partners.”

Since then, Slumbers has been involved in several major developments in the sport, including new rules that will limit the distance golf balls can travel in the future.
English, a former international banker, argued that “something had to be done” and worked with the United States Golf Association to introduce rule changes. It will come into effect in 2028, despite strong opposition from several major players and manufacturers.
