‘Herculean’ wins F1 USA jackpot through Las Vegas gambling
The inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix was not without controversy, but according to track bosses, it was a resounding victory for American Formula One.
Miami Grand Prix chairman Tyler Epp has called off one of the best races of 2023 in Las Vegas after a disastrous start to the week in which a loose drain plug damaged Carlos Sainz’s Ferrari and caused safety problems subsequent. I was shocked by what happened. It will stop. But the next race was exciting and the decision to hold the race in a desert city and the gambling capital of the world paid off for Clubs, Hearts and Diamonds, despite the doubts of many. Epp has delivered on his promise and believes success at the Vegas GP will only bode well for future American races.
“We talk about it a lot. It’s always risky to lump all American F1 fans into one category, but we all love the competition and we all love the drama,” Epp explained.
“Oh my God, the Las Vegas race had them both!” A lot happened at last May’s competition. So I think any time we can have a great race on our home turf, it will help grow American F1 fans.
“I can’t say enough good things about the effort of Rene [Wilm, Las Vegas GP CEO] and his team. It was a huge success.
“I think the promoter community looks out for each other. They did a great job because we know mistakes were made and we know how it feels when the story is told. “As American promoters, we believe in the upward trend for all ships and wanted this to be a success.
“I think Renee and the team have done everything they can to invest in the sport and that was evident on Saturday night.”
How much money did Las Vegas make from this event?
Businesses in and around Las Vegas also benefited greatly from the ride, with more than 3 million fans flocking to the races and $1.2 billion raised through the event. The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority also said that Formula 1’s impact on racing in November 2023 was the most successful November in the city’s history and brought an additional $100 million in revenue to the city.
Other Las Vegas businesses have benefited greatly from F1 coming to town. The Nevada Gaming Control Board reported more than $821 million in revenue, and MGM Resorts International, a subsidiary of the popular hotel chain, reported a 33 percent increase in rooms as it delivered its most profitable weekend in history the chain.
